Summary

Among several rheumatologic diseases, IFN alpha has found more widespread use in Behcet’s syndrome and hepatitis C virus-associated mixed cryoglobulinemia despite a paucity of formal studies. Patients should be carefully monitored for the frequent and dose-dependent adverse effects.”
“The chemical investigation of the epiphytic orchid Appendicula reflexa led to the isolation of one new phenanthrene, 3,4,6,7-tetramethoxyphenanthrene-2,8-diol (1) and one new bisphenanthrene ether, named blestrin E (6), together with the known monomeric phenanthrenes, nudol (2), 3,4,6-trimethoxyphenanthrene-2,7-diol (3), coelonin (4) and 6-methoxycoelonin (5).

Their structural elucidation was established VX-765 on the basis of spectroscopic data analysis. The monomeric phenanthrenes 1 and 3 showed moderate cytotoxic activities against KB, MCF7 and K562 cells, and potent inhibiting activity on CDK1/cyclin B (IC(50)s = 0.07 and 0.2 mu M, respectively). “Purpose of review

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic, autoimmune disease resulting in the destruction of affected joints. Even though current therapies with biologics

such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha blockers yield significant improvement for the patients, the disease is not curable BAY 1895344 inhibitor yet. Therefore, we need novel strategies for better therapies.

Recent findings

The growing knowledge of epigenetics might give us new insights into the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases. In the last year, several new findings about epigenetic modifications of gene expression were reported in different arthritides. These modifications describe changes in the expression of DNA that result from methylation, posttranslational modifications of the histone AZD4547 research buy proteins, including acetylation/deacetylation, sumoylation, methylation

and microRNAs. Most interestingly, these modifications seem to act in concert and are associated with the circadian metabolic rhythm of cells.

Summary

This review summarizes reports from the last year about epigenetic modifications of gene expression via acetylation/deacetylation, including sirtuins, sumoylation, methylation, microRNAs in all in rheumatoid arthritis and other arthritides, providing potential strategies for better therapies and encourages the development of specific epigenetic drugs.”
“Purpose: This article reviews original publications related to imaging in osteoarthritis (OA) published in English from September 2011 through March 2012. In vitro data and animal studies are not covered.

Methods: To extract relevant studies, an extensive PubMed database search was performed using the query terms “”osteoarthritis”" in combination with “”MRI”", “”imaging”", “”radiography”", “”ultrasound”", “”computed tomography”" and “”nuclear medicine”".
