The study, a cross-sectional investigation rooted in institutional settings, spanned the period from March 24, 2022 to April 19, 2022. Data collection involved the use of a pretested self-administered questionnaire and a stratified random sampling strategy applied to a sample size of 423. Epi Info V.71 software was utilized for data entry, and STATA V.15 software was used for data analysis. To characterize the study participants and quantify the association between dependent and independent variables, descriptive statistics and a logistic regression model were, respectively, applied. The aim of this study was to generate reliable, consistent assessments of diabetes and pre-diabetes prevalence among Sri Lankan adults, a population anticipated to have the highest rates in South Asia, based on previous research findings.
A nationally representative cohort of 6661 adults, part of the inaugural 2018/2019 wave of the Sri Lanka Health and Ageing Study (SLHAS), provided the data used in our analysis. Using prior diabetes diagnosis and either fasting plasma glucose (FPG) or fasting plasma glucose (FPG) in combination with 2-hour plasma glucose (2-h PG), we established glycemic status categories. selleck chemical We calculated the crude and age-standardized prevalence of prediabetes and diabetes, adjusting for major individual characteristics, using a weighting approach to account for study design and subject participation.
